Name: Shino “Shade” Kasumi

Age: Appears 17 most often, sometimes 22, is actually 220

Gender: Female

Appearance:
Her skin is a mix between milk chocolate and cream, while her hair is a silver-blue color, appearing darker only in the shadows and reaches to just below her back. Hairstyle is a mix between keeping it long and keeping some shoulder length. Some days her longer hair will be put into two long braids and other days it’s allowed to fly freely. Eyes are a piercing gold that will occasionally make people feel nervous if for no other reason their striking and piercing looks.
Outfit wise:
Spoiler:

Personality:
Shino is a rather unruffled yet confused seeming individual. New things are seen with wonder, but she’s never completely thrown for a loop at the same time and just takes everything in stride. When it seems to come to what is everyday she can only behold in wonder and interest, comparing things to what she knows and finding them either similar or vastly different. For the most part she is serene and calm, talking in a soft but easily heard voice and rarely becoming over excited about anything. Fighting isn’t one of her favorite things but she is never fearful or hesitant to enter the fray, in some cases making it sound like her ‘duty’ to do so, depending on the situation. Appears to find contact with other people as ‘strange’ but isn’t totally unwilling either, just lacks overall experience in social situations and with the skills, so is often prone to speaking her mind and at times without proper care to her words. Is hesitant to get close to others due to a problem in her past and is oriented towards a goal that she tries to hide from others. Ever since she’s appeared in Karakura she’s been finding a bit more ‘vigor’ for life that she thought had once died with her family and later the turning of her friend.

History:

[Birth and Death]

Originally, Shino wasn’t even born in the ‘Earth realm’ but in a different dimension. It was one of both technologically advanced cities and also of small villages, ruins dotting the countryside and islands. Temples were everywhere for people to pray at, and the people believed in spiritual beasts that protected them. Here she was born to a simple merchant’s family, complete with a mom and dad, an older sister, and a younger brother. Her older sister soon went into training to become a priestess after Shino was only a few years old due to their age gap, and two years later she was blessed with a younger brother to play with. Shino herself held no interest in gaining the family business, so once her brother was ten years of age he began being groomed to someday take over the modest but thriving business. At age fifteen her brother was turned into a partner with her father, and still she had to find her own niche in the world. But her own spirit was a wanderer at heart and so once old enough she began her travels, learning to wield a whip with ease to keep the demons at bay, and eventually adding a handgun to her inventory.

Upon reaching seventeen years of age she began to journey back home for a family reunion, having visited all the temples and prayed to many of the beasts. Sometimes she could almost swear she heard a voice in the temples, nothing more than a whisper though. A might bit weary, she did reach the more out of the way branch of the business, located on a ‘high-way’ (a dirt road in all truth). Last to arrive, she was still greeted warmly by her siblings and parents, all taking a day of rest before any celebrations would begin. A few days were spent in happy bliss and peace…until the third day. Her older sister had left momentarily to retrieve some fruit from a nearby tree and it wasn’t until it was taking suspiciously long that they all went outside to begin searching for her. Upon leaving it was clear as day to see what had happened: a horrendous demon had appeared as she’d left the house and had already devoured chunks of her. In shock, the family stood there and the monster turned, roaring and snatching up the mother, smashing her into the ground. Her skull blew open while her back crunched up horribly, and she was soon tossed over the nearby Cliffside into the ocean.

Despite the horror the father and brother shot into action, yet not quickly enough as the brother was quickly grasped and smashed into the nearby steep, rocky hillside. Now having painted the water below and rocky wall beside in blood, the monster looked at the last two victims ready to be had. Wielding a simple sword, the father tried to yell for his surviving child to run while he held off the beast but she refused, joining him in battle. Working together the duo managed to sever an arm, but after shrieking in pain the monster took it up like a club and bashed the father, smacking him harshly into the wall of the building. As she caught the remaining arm with her whip, some knights who were stationed nearby finally came after hearing the roar and managed to subdue it as she fainted from both exhaustion and emotional shock. While the father was saved regardless of injuries her own mind seemed incapable of holding on and soon her own soul fled to what they called the “Farplane.”

[Farplane – Guardians]

Most souls would only float gaily and carelessly around the large open expanse, a wall of waterfalls surrounding an island of various flowers and the water leading to a large hole in the distance making up a majority of the scenery. In the distance pillars can be spotted jutting up from the ocean to reach into the sky filled with clouds, and a blue sphere surrounded in black energy seems to hang over the large hole in the water. Various trees sprout up from the waterfalls, and cliffs fall into the waters, a simple ledge hanging over the waterfalls opposite the hole and sphere is the only connection between this world of the dead and the world of the living.

It was here that she soon found herself standing in this field of wild flowers, staring out at the expanse of water with the strange structures spouting from it, and the bizarre dark sphere floating in the sky. A voice, a familiar whisper sounded, calling to her, asking her what she wanted. What would she do to get it? So many questions floated around her until she was forced to tell them to stop and reveal themselves. The masses of dark mist appeared, surrounding her, and forming the same beast gods that she’d worshipped dutifully at the temples, if even only to pay her respects after admiring the building designs. The black dragon god stepped forward to speak for them and asked what it was she desired the most. Her reply was simple: to walk amongst the living again. Such a request was not a simple one, but not out of their capabilities. Yet something such as this would cost a price – naturally. The price would be to serve as a guide to the lost souls lest they become ‘fiends.’

If even only to see her father, she agreed with her full heart, willing to become their servant and sender so long as she could look upon those she loved in life again and be heard. For her there was no worse fate than to become a floating and smiling spirit for her father to see whenever he appeared at the Farplane, utterly incapable of basic speech. The gods themselves were reserved for only the most special of priests and priestesses to be called upon for battle, and rarely at that, but in her capable hands would come the ‘8 Epitaphs’ also referred to as the ‘8 Phases of the Cursed Wave.’ Made only from the purest and also the blackest souls forced to repent for their sins/ways, these beings came to serve Shino, renamed as ‘Shade’ by the gods, by aiding the good to the Farplane and vanquishing the darkness from fiends. Each phase was categorized by a different aspect of human nature…

The Terror of Death: Skeith – the epitaph formed from the human fear of death
The Mirage of Deceit: Innis – the epitaph formed from the human concept of deception.
The Propagator: Magus – the epitaph formed from the human need to procreate.
The Prophet: Fiddchell – the epitaph formed from the human concept of unavoidable Fate.
The Machinator: Gorre – the epitaph was formed from acts of human cruelty.
The Temptress: Macha – the epitaph was formed from human affection that arises from unrequited love.
The Avenger: Tarvos – the epitaph was formed from human jealousy, revenge, and other dark emotions.
The Rebirth: Corbenik – the epitaph who was formed from all human emotions towards the meaning of life and death and the purity within their hearts.

With their power she was allowed back into the world as a living soul, able to console her heartbroken father while protecting innocent souls from damnation as the repenting ones inside the Epitaphs. If a soul was too dark then the highest crime they’d committed delegated which Epitaph they were absorbed into. There was another like her by the name of ‘Kaijin’ who was able to show her the ropes and how to properly control and wield one of the sacred epitaphs. On tougher assignments she’d team up with him to take down a strong force, and sometimes others in the world if it was especially long and arduous. As time flowed on they became stronger and stronger and were able to take on assignments that were once tough even together on by them selves. Time appears to dislike monotony though and soon Shino found herself at odds with Kaijin as some dark entity known as “Bachiri” had attached its self to him in order not to be absorbed by Kaijin’s sacred beasts and the Gods demanded Shino either purify him…or kill him. For years she tracked him around their world as he set things into chaos and gave birth to dark desires in once decent individuals through Bachiri.

Cornering him in one part of the world after many long years they began a battle that stretched over a year and due to the growth in their powers and unable to rest lest they give the other an opening. To protect the rest of the world the Gods sealed off the area with their powers as the duo leveled the lands. A year passing saw the two staring each other down, finally tired and unable to call up one of their sacred spirits to fight as well as their own strength waning. Shino had a hidden trick up her sleeve as she used Magus’s abilities to revive Skeith enough to wield his scythe again. Bachiri couldn’t handle the thought of being destroyed and used every ounce of his powers to open a rift in the dimensions to devour Shino and force her away but was too weak to properly control it so that both she and Kaijin were whisked away.

[Earth – A New World]

The rift transported her to another dimension where the people dressed and acted different, had strange technology, and some people seemed to ignore the fiends as well as those who fought the fiends’ existence. The most devastating fact was that she found she couldn’t summon any of the Epitaphs and people could only see her off and on. Worry gnawed at her being as she walked along the rough stone walkways alongside brick buildings and people in what they referred to as ‘suits.’ A week into her stay she finally appeared to recover enough power to take herself back to her world, only to find it could only reach the Farplane and no further. The dragon god appeared before her again, though he seemed hazier than last they met, and told her that she was now tied to a new plain of existence yet still bound to the ‘other world’ that was the Farplane. Once again, for the honesty of her soul, and in kindness for all the deeds she’d done, he granted her the power of the Epitaphs to help purify the souls in this new world. In addition, she would be able to come back to the Farplane to rest should the new world become too weary for her soul, as well as some individuals from the world if she could establish bonds with them. For now though, her Epitaphs would be delegated to the first three while the others, as well as some of their second forms, would come later. Even though they didn’t give her the task again, Shino still felt she had to purify Kaijin of Bachiri, as she owed it to him from their years of friendship.

With a heavy heart she traveled across the dimensions to her new ‘world’ and began her duties anew in purifying corrupted souls and guiding lost souls…to wherever they ended up here while trying to find any and all information that might lead her to Kaijin. Her form bonded with the plane of existence more firmly after her first return to the Farplane and she was able to more consistently be visible. Yet a strange discrepancy arose where at times her body appeared more of a teenager and sometimes more of an adult woman. More often than naught she can control this change to either her advantage or prevent it from occurring too often but if she becomes tired then it tends to switch with more frequency.

RP Sample:

Dust floated off into the wind as the only remains of the creature that had stood before her moments ago. It had boasted of strength so grand her ‘puny human mind’ couldn’t possibly begin to comprehend it. That would only have been true for a normal human, not Shino. Some of the creatures had also tried to ask her if she was some ‘undercover Shinigami’ at times but she’d always declined such allegations in favor of trying to claim to be human. This one had asked the same thing before it dissolved and its body had floated off into the winds and she had thus been unable to give it an answer. Its soul now lay within one of the epitaphs.

Gold scanned the horizon to spy the setting sun and she sighed. Another night under the moon for her only hopefully it wouldn’t be too cold tonight. So far Shino had yet to figure out how to gain any of the currency in this world though at least when it came to food she was able to drain life energy from those very monsters she killed as well as bits from the humans. Nothing they wouldn’t notice and couldn’t replenish with sleep anyhow. Wasn’t as bad as one creature she’d found that survived off of their life liquid.

Wind swished quickly when it’d been still only a short while ago and gave indication that she was no longer alone. Energy swirled not far and she could be certain it was one of those black clad figures fighting another nearby hollow. Curiosity dictated that she should go watch the fight and then try to question the black clothed person on who and what they were…but at the same time she couldn’t be sure if they were friend or foe and so allowed them to take out a foe for her.

‘One of these days…I’ll work up the courage to talk to one…perhaps they could help me find him but until then I’ll have to continue not trusting them.’ Still alone and regaining use of the epitaphs she couldn’t risk confronting an unknown entity and sped off to find a peaceful place to sleep for the night.
