Shikai Ability: The five sections of the blade allow Daio to extend it up to four meters at will, or retract it to two feet. The handle also extends to both balance the blade and allow him to manipulate it with greater precision.

Techniques:

Technique 1: Shikai - Burning Black: The blade instantly heats to several hundred degrees, but instead of glowing the metal darkens to an onyx sheen. The sudden heat also causes a black steam to rise off the blade, almost giving the illusion of dark flames. He can use this ability once every five posts up to a max of 3 times per battle, each time the blade only partially returning to it's natural color, until it remains black on the 3rd use until he sheaths the blade after the battle.

Technique 2: Shikai - Blade Launch: The blade extends from two feet to four meters nearly instantly and with great force. This causes some slight damage to the slide setup, causing the blade to be locked in extended mode for three posts. This has a base cooldown of ten posts, although he can use it after 5 posts with an additional 2 slide lock posts, up to a max of 9 position locked posts, at which point he can not use the technique for the rest of the battle.

Technique 3: Shikai - Rage Aura: When angered, both Darrell and Yajuu radiate heat, which can make it very uncomfortable to be near them. While the aura is never hot enough to burn a person instantly, constant exposure can cause burns, and evaporate water. The aura vanishes instantly if they are separated from each other. Note - if the aura is hot enough to burn, then it's not your only problem, as Darrell will most likely be seeking your blood, even if he has to dig it out of you with his teeth.
