Personality: Hanabi is a strange child to put it simply. She shifts from extreme seriousness and solemn actions to bubbly childishness with nary a warning. At times she acts twice her age, spouting knowledge that she shouldn't know or speaking in proverbs. She enjoys acting mysterious when around strangers. With people she knows, Hanabi can tend to act very young. She is always giving nicknames to her friends, and will use them no matter how demeaning or annoying people find them to be. Some say that she isn't totally in her right state of mind, which is entirely possible. Hanabi wanders the mental landscapes that most never enter, and at times that brings about strange conversations or musings.

History/Background: Hanabi was born to a normal family, and had a relatively normal childhood. Nothing remarkable happened during the first period of her life. Her mother and father were both very close, and they were happy to have Hanabi, doting on her all the time. Her family was a large one, with her uncles and aunts and cousins all living close by. As a baby Hanabi was strangely quiet, and she would wander off on her own to sit by herself. He parents paid it no heed, simply happy that they had a child. When it became obvious that Hanabi couldn’t talk at the proper age, they began to worry. She still crawled around instead of walking, and in most cases seemed developmentally slow.

Her parents brought in a doctor to test her, but the doctor could find nothing wrong. After awhile they settled with the idea that their daughter was just going to be slow. So it came as a large surprise when she did start talking as Hanabi spoke in full sentences, clearly expressing what she wanted to say. Her parents still worried however, as Hanabi had the strange tendency to say odd things. At first the brushed it off as a child lacking any tact, but as she began to say odder and odder things the worry grew. They were embarrassed too, for a child’s comments reflected back on them. When Hanabi wouldn’t stop, they decided that perhaps she needed time away from home. Sending her off to her uncles, they convinced themselves that they had done something right.

Hanabi liked her uncle, the old man was always kind and he didn’t mind her silences or odd comments. He just took them in stride. As her stay with him grew longer and longer, Hanabi began to wonder when her parents would come back for her. After awhile, it became obvious that it would take them awhile. Her uncle began to tell her stories, and she grew enamored with these stories, thinking them fantasy. When he finally thought she was ready, her uncle told her the truth. That the people he had been speaking of were all real. That she had a power inside of her. It wasn’t that hard to grasp, and Hinabi believed him immediately. So her uncle began to train her as a Quincy, and after some time she grew less lonely. Her parents had left her yes, but she was content with her current lifestyle.
