Outskirts of Rukongai

A fleeting shadow flitted through the forest, weaving soundlessly through the thickets. Nocturnal wildlife was calm and serene, crickets serenading softly as this shadow pressed forward in a swift, sure stride. The trees and shrubbery thinned out and grew sparse as it drew near to and passed through the forest's edge; stepping out into the gentle embrace of the night sky. The faint sound of violently rushing water came within earshot as the shadow, now the semblance of a young man, crept silently across the land before him alongside a river.

Bathed in the moonlight filtering through the dark, drifting clouds; his appearance became more visible. Barely within the visual range of mid-teen years, the figure retained a youthful look. Soft, pale features, bright icy blue eyes, and messy dark blue-green hair. Wrapped about his figure was a untucked black kimono, the bottom lining a little tattered, with sleeves that were obviously too long for the boy's smaller stature; obscuring his hands from view. Black hakama covered his legs, flowing lightly with the wind as he walked onward on bare feet.

Suddenly, the grassy green ground underfoot came to a halt. The crashing roar reached full blast as he gazed over the edge of a waterfall and the large pool of water it fell into. It wasn't enormous, but roughly fifty feet. The scenery was majestic, cast in the pale touch of the moonlight, giving it an incredibly beautiful glow.

The boy slipped out of his kimono and threw it as hard as he could towards the shoreline of the pool below, the garment hurtling through the air as if something heavy were within and landed upon the water's edge. Before it had even reached it's destination the boy had leapt over the edge of the waterfall in a dive, his back to the falling water as he fell headfirst to the pool below. Time seemed to slow as he felt the wind rushing through his hair, against his face and chest.

He hit the water with a massive splash and remained submerged feeling no need to make an effort, instead letting his body drift to the surface of it's own accord. The Shinigami lay there for quite some time, floating amidst the cool waters in utter relaxation and contentment.
